Papaya Salad

This popular dish from the north east of Thailand can be found on almost every street corner. It is relatively simple to make and is a healthy dish with an abundance of flavor thanks to it’s variety of ingredients. Give this great recipe a try and let us know what you think!

Ingredients

• 1 medium sized green papaya (grated)
• 3 tomatoes (quartered)
• 6 long green beans cut into small pieces
• 6 tbsp peanuts
• 6-8 tbsp fish sauce
• Fresh chilli (to taste)
• 4-5 tbsp palm sugar
• 4-5 cloves of garlic
• 1 carrot (grated)
• 8 tbsp tamarind juice
• 5-6 tbsp lime juice
• 4 tbsp of dried prawns (optional)

Steps

1. Mixed grated carrot and papaya together
2. Use a mortar and a pestle to crush garlic and chilli
3. Add peanuts, green beans, dried prawns and palm sugar to the garlic and chilli mix before crushing
4. Add lime juice, fish sauce and tamarind juice – mix
5. Add tomatoes and stir in grated papaya and carrot
6. Serve!

Tips: 1. The more you crush the chilli, the spicier it will be!
2. Eat with plain or sticky rice
