Homemade Sardine Recipe (serves 3)

If serving canned sardines for dinner is common in your home, why not give it a try for yourself and get some satisfaction out of it? With this recipe, it’s guaranteed to be just as delicious if not more than canned sardines. Moreover, preservative-free is definitely better, right?!

Ingredients

• Sardines – 1/2 kg
• Lime, take the juice only – 1 piece
• Shallots (onions), sliced – 3 grains
• Garlic, sliced – 2 cloves
• Sugar – 1/2 tsp
• Salt – 1/2 tsp
• Broth powder – 1/2 tsp
• Margarine – 2 tablespoons
•Water – 200 ml

Recommended ground spices:
• Shallots – 5 pieces
• Garlic – 3 cloves
• Tomatoes – 2 pieces
• Curly red chilies – 5 pieces
• Tomato sauce – 4 tbsp
• Ginger – 2 cm

Steps

1. Wash the fish clean, cut off the head, then coat with lime juice. Let stand for 15 minutes.
2. In a heat-resistant container or dish, arrange the fish together with slices of garlic and onion. Cook the fish until it turns color to turn white. Remove and drain before setting aside.
3. Heat the margarine and then sauté ground spices until fragrant.
4. Pour water and season with sugar, salt and powdered broth. Mix well and let it cook until it boils.
5. Add the fish and spread the sauce. Cook until the seasoning is absorbed. Lift and serve!

Tips
1. The sardines can also be peeled to be more soft according to your preference.
2. Cook on a bed of rice to eat this dish Asian style!
